doctorwhotoys.net interviews Ben Harper the UK & Ireland Director of Magic Box International, makers of Doctor Who Power Rollers
Question: Will Doctor Who Power Rollers be available in the US? Answer: We currently have no plan for a major distribution in the US
What does the Spanish parent company make of Doctor Who? And are they becoming fans?
They were unfamiliar with Dr Who until I brought the license to their attention as a commercial opportunity for Power Rollers. Since then they have watched some episodes and have been impressed with the style and quality of the ‘new’ Dr Who series. I wouldn’t say that they were fans just yet though!
Was it hard to decide on the 60 Rollers characters?
We took advice from the BBC Licensing department to help us determine the characters to select. There were a variety of commercial considerations as well as preferences for popular characters.
What was the inspiration behind the more 'psychedelic' designs eg #47 & #48?
These designs were inspired by artwork content from the BBC’s own Dr Who styleguide.
From where are all the photos taken?
Direct from the BBC.
All the characters are from the New Series. Are there any plans for Classic Series Rollers or indeed any second wave of Doctor Who Power Rollers?
Not yet.
The Tardis is great. Are there any other toys in the pipeline?
Not yet.
The lid of the Tardis box makes a wonderful spinning top - is this an accident or by design?
Pure accident but you’re right!
Its tricky to get the lid of the Tardis box on and off for young hands - are there any plans to revise this?
No plans to revise.
Is there a full list of all the games listed on the reverse of packs?
We hope to put something on our website soon.
There are 60 rollers to collect but what about variations - some characters are found on different coloured plastic rollers. Any thoughts on the total number?
We have used a wide variety of different colours. The assortment has been randomised so I couldn’t provide a total number.
