A Selection of Classic Doctor Who Book Jackets from Ian O's Collection 'Dr Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks' by David Whitaker was the first actual Doctor Who novelisation. Published in 1964 by Armada Books it is sure to become more and more collectable. The hardback edition is already much more difficult to track down. Armada Paperbacks "for boys & girls" priced the book originally at just two shillings and 6 pence. Copies of this title in fair condition can still be picked up for a few pounds. David Whitaker was one of the original creators of Doctor Who and was the show's first script editor. His classic novels were subsequently republished by Target. From 1973 until 1991 virtually every TV episode of Doctor Who was published as a novel by Target Books. In total there are more than 150 Target novelisations to collect. Very many of the Target Books that were not done by the actual episode scriptwriters were novelised by Terrance Dicks. Released on 2nd May 1973 David Whitaker's 'Doctor Who and the Daleks' is prized as one of the first three books to be published by Target. From 1994 to 1997 the Virgin Missing Adventures titles were published Virgin Missing Adventures Books In 2005 BBC Books began publishing the New Series Books Character Options Classic Doctor Who Action Figures Classic Series were first publicly announced in April 2008 with the release of Wave 1 following that summer to international acclaim.
