Q & A with Anna Whitehead, Product Manager for Wesco Ltd, August 2008
- Question: Did you design the Dalek Whizz Watch in house?
Answer: Yes, the Whizz Watch was created by the Wesco design team.
-
Which Dalek does the 4cm Whizz Watch Dalek represent?
The Dalek is based on the Black Dalek from the second series
- Was the dalek sculpted and by whom?
As a 3D item the Dalek was sculpted. We have access to a number of sculptors who specialize in toys and products.
- Are there plans for more Doctor Who Whizz Watches and more 4cm figures?
There are no immediate plans for further Dr Who Whizz Watches, but as with any successful product we take a watching brief on how we can develop them in future.
- What can the Dalek do?
The Dalek moves forwards and backwards. When going backwards he turns slightly to the left so he can be directed to some extent.
- How does the dalek move?
There are 3 small wheels underneath.
- What exactly is the beam and what is its range?
The beam is infrared and the range is roughly 5-6 meters depending on the battery strength.
- What were the challenges involved in making such a miniaturised dalek toy?
Accuracy of the models is always a challenge, along with fitting the workings inside such a small item.
Thanks Anna
