Welcome to an Occasional Series Featuring Amazing Doctor Who Toy Fans
Clive Banks runs the 'Science Fiction and Telefantasy Databanks'. This incredible, brilliantly written resource catalogues every single Doctor Who episode, as well as Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures amongst many others. A huge Doctor Who toy and action figure fan Clive has very kindly agreed to write a few words just for doctorwhotoys.net -
Says Clive: "Ive been collecting Doctor Who toys for many, many years ever since I was knee-high to a Graske!"
"I always wanted a nice set of action figures of all the characters and monsters from the show, but up until now the only options I had were to spend a fortune tracking down the various Dalek toys released the 1960s (none of which were particularly accurate: their bases were usually the wrong way round, or they were made of cheap plastic, cardboard, foam even soap!); the Palitoy Action Man figures from the 1970s, which included a Cyberman with a nose and a Leela with giant Barbie hair; and the hugely disappointing Dapol range of figures from the mid-1980s, which promised so much, but only delivered a series of inaccurate, badly-designed toys such as a green K-9, a two-handed Davros, a Fourth Doctor minus his trademark scarf, and a 5-sided TARDIS console".
"But now, after all these years, Im finally enjoying my second childhood with Character Options excellent range of figures! My living room shelves are crammed with armies of Daleks, Cybermen, Ood and Judoon, while the Tenth Doctor, Rose, Martha and Jack are poised and ready to take on Autons, Clockwork Men, Sycorax and Scarecrows".
"My four-year-old son Thomas is also enjoying playing with these new Doctor Who figures he has his own box of toys, and even uses my collection as a checklist to make sure he gets everything that gets released too! Im looking forward to the range of Classic Who figures, plus the toys based on Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures I think Im going to need a bigger room"
"When Im not collecting Doctor Who toys my time is spent working, being a husband and dad, watching DVDs, reading American comic books, and going down the pub. I also maintain a website at www.CliveBanks.co.uk home of 'The Science Fiction and Telefantasy Databanks', a guide to some of the best cult and classic science fiction and telefantasy programmes ever transmitted, which includes Doctor Who, Torchwood, Star Trek, Blakes 7, The Avengers, Thunderbirds and shedloads more! I regularly get around 45,000 visits a month with a whopping huge hit rate of over 1,000,000 hits and am always updating, so why not pay it a visit?"
Thanks Clive
